Where can I Find Free CEU Courses for Nurses?

By ProMed Staff

As nurse recruiters, we understand nurses and the complexities of working in the healthcare environment. We know how stressful it can get especially with those long working hours, physical labor, emotional demands of patients and their families, tedious paperwork, shift work and the need and requirement to engage in continuous learning.

So to save you some time, and money (because it should not cost an arm and a leg to learn how to fix one) we decided to write a blog on where to find free and accredited Continuing Education Units.

Depending on where you are in your care continuum you can find free CEU courses through the following:

Websites: All the programs mentioned above require planning. But if you are short on time and need to earn a few CE units quickly, here are some sites you can go to search for or collect free or almost free CEUs:

  • CEUsforFree.com– This website helps locate providers who post continuing education units free of charge online. In addition to free CEUs, the site also provides a list of fee-based courses.
  • Nurseceu.com– a free-to-use web-based directory of online continuing education courses for nurses and other healthcare professionals. The website has over 750 courses, including free courses, in 45 topical categories.
  • Medscape.org– Another great resource for free CEUs. Medscape LLC. Is accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a provider of continuing nursing education.

Hospitals and other medical facilities: Some hospitals offer free training programs to earn nursing CEUs to their staff nurses through staffing meetings, guest lectures and or in-hospital training.

Nursing Organizations: Nursing organizations such as the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, Emergency Nurses Association, sponsor symposiums and lectures for their members. Nurses can earn CEU just by attending these events. You may also find CEUs available from your state’s board of nursing, the U.S. Department of Health, or other non-profit agencies.

Pharmaceutical and equipment companies: Some pharma and medical equipment companies offer nurses opportunities to earn contact hours for your CE requirement. By just attending their seminars and learning about their products you can earn CEUs.

Universities: Universities that offer nursing programs, host guest lecturers and seminars for students, alumni and even outside guests. Sign up for school newsletters to keep up to date with news and events.

At ProMed Staffing Resources we know that finding individual state’s CE requirements can get stressful especially when you are traveling. Our travel nurse recruiters can help you with all your licensing requirements so that you can focus on what’s important: being the best nurse you can be!
